Drink Week: Watermelonade and Cucumber Limeade

Last day of Drink Week:

The end has come- the end of drink week. I’m sad to see it go, even though it’s kind of ridiculous because all it really means is that I won’t be posting a drink EVERY day. Nowhere in there does it mean I can’t make more, nor does it mean that I can’t share more at a later time. I’m officially ridiculous and you should probably just dismiss anything else I say today (it’s Friday)…except for the drink concoctions.

What I’m most interested in for the weekend are more drinks-give them to me, ladies and gents. Please share. I already did the mojito thing last night, anything new would be dandy.

Check out the sips from drink week: iced tea and other ideas using tea, fruit spritzers and fruit pops, lemonade, limeade and ideas for those (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and iced coffee and coffee cubes.

These last two are twists on -ades, quite different and worth a try on a hot day…those are coming. Woot woot!

Watermelonade from Gourmet
Makes about a gallon
Print Recipe Print Recipe
Ingredients:
12 lb. watermelon (preferably seedless)
¼ cup sugar
4 tsp fresh lemon juice
16 cups ice cubes
pinch of salt
lemon/lime slices/mint-garnish

Cut the flesh of the watermelon into chunks and discard the rind. Puree one fourth of the watermelon in a blender with 1 tbsp of sugar, 1 tsp lemon juice, a pinch of salt and 4 cups of ice. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher. Throw away the solids (or make into fruit pops). Make the other 3 batches the same way, place into the pitcher, taste and add more sugar (if needed). Serve over ice. Garnish with lime/lemon slices and/or mint.

Cucumber Limeade from Martha Stewart
Serves 4 to 6
Ingredients:
1 English cucumber (about 1 lb.)
1 ½ cups water
¼ cup sugar
juice of 1 lime
¼ tsp salt
1 cup of ice

Peel the cucumber and remove any seeds. Chop and place in a blender with water, sugar, lime juice, salt and ice. Blend until smooth and serve over ice. Garnish with cucumber spears, if you’d like.
